ART IN THE PARK BAGUIO
The birth of a tradition. Art in the Park Baguio debuts this year in
time for the city’s annual celebration of the Panagbenga or the Baguio Flower
Festival. Staged amidst the pines trees of Upper Wright Park at Brgy. Lualhati
in Baguio City, the natural setting enhances the showcase of a rich mixture of
works in a variety of mediums. On this occasion, art, artists and artworks meet
and greet the general public.
The Art in the Park Baguio is a celebration of creativity. It features
local, regional and Metro-Manila artists displaying their original artworks. Local artists include Joe
Abawag, Ernie Gomez, Marge Dela Cruz-Gomez, Julius Salarda, Arnold Baladad, Mark
Asiong, Ric Sanchez and Sarah Jane Tarriela. They are joined by Tarlac-based
artist Chrisanto Aquino and Metro-Manila based artists Derrick Macutay, Van
Tuico, Milmar Onal, Del Garcia, Kach Nerida and artist-curator JCrisanto
Martinez. Throughout the duration of the event, artists will display and be on
hand to discuss their drawings, paintings, photographs, fine art prints, and
works in other media.
Art in the Park Baguio sets the
stage for not only for art appreciation but also for communication and
camaraderie. It offers an exchange of values. Starting this year, Upper Wright
Park shall be the venue for friendship and familiarity among artists and the
general public under the crown and refuge of Filipino visual arts.
However, Art in the Park Baguio pushes further towards socio-civic
concerns by way of the arts. We have chosen the Luwalhati Livelihood Association as beneficiary of the event and part of
the proceeds from Art in the Park Baguio shall be
donated to the Luwalhati Livelihood Association’s Clean and Beautification
Programs at the Upper Wright Park. A long-term commitment has also been set to
launch an annual Tawid, a collateral event that features free Art workshops in
the Park planned to take place at the same venue in April of every year.
The local visual artists in
Baguio City in particular and the Filipino visual artists in general continue
to literally beg for a space where they and their artworks can be appreciated
and recognized. Staging Art in the Park Baguio becomes a platform for them to
do so as it also furthers their socio-civic projects by way of the arts and
promotes the local arts, culture and tourism in the City of Pines.
Art in the Park Baguio is an independent initiative of the artists
involved. It was organized with the help of media partners Artepinas and the
Cordillera Artists Central together with Balai Kamalayan, WJ Construction and
Engineering Services, Magnifix Designs, Arnold Baladad Photography, Got Ad
Founders Online Advertising, Gallery ErGo, and the Luwalhati Livelihood Association.
